Berhampur: The poor class of a hospital can paint a sad picture. But that is not the case at MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Berhampur. In addition to doctors and nurses, a team of three women (all professional cooks) cared for 12 elderly people at the church. These women – Muni Jena, Sukamati and Surekha – have been doing this job for the last few months without being paid a single penny by the MCH management. These three people living in a lower middle class family provide cooking assistance to the following families and move to the city to supplement the family income. They live near the Mother and Child Hospital and go to MKCG every day after work, taking turns caring for patients in the special poverty group until late at night.
